The Beginning
Fabian Ybarra, born and raised in the city of San Antonio, TX. is the youngest of six children. He began drinking at the age of ten and started using drugs by 13. Fabian had a passion for music and his talent landed him a spot in a professional mariachi group at the age of 15. Fabian began traveling all over the United States with the group and instead of taking in the sights, he recalls spending his
down time getting high in the hotel rooms.

By his 18th birthday, Fabian’s crack addiction had cost him his job as a teacher with various school districts. Things quickly went downhill from this point. Nothing was more important than attaining that “high”, nothing.

During a church festival, Fabian, hired as entertainment, listened to the gospel message and “high as a kite, I invited Christ into my life,” Fabian recalls. Instead of getting better, Fabian’s addiction deepened, but so did his discontentment. The breaking point came one day in 2005 when Fabian was coming down from a drug binge that had been bought with the sale of the entire contents of his family’s apartment. Someone handed him a flyer for a men’s home. Fabian entered this facility where he allowed himself to be disciplined, directed, and discipled for the first time in his life. Unfortunately, he left after the first year.

Within months, Fabian realized he had stepped out of God’s will for his life. So, in 2007,heresponded to the call of God over his life and entered full-time ministry. Fabian became the musical director and eventually, he and his family moved into the men’s home where he became the director. At this point, Fabian established a covenant with God, if God took care of his family, something he himself had never been able to do, he, in turn would look out for the “lost”, love the “unlovable”, and seek out the “unwanted”. Upon reflection, Fabian lists this as the most difficult phase of his life, the denying of self. His passion for the lost consumed him, just as his drug-addiction had once consumed him.
In the summer of 2010, Fabian was asked to pastor his own church, United Restoration Church. The church was founded mimicking the early church in Acts. It began in a living room and later moved into a facility by the end of that year. All along, Pastor Fabian held onto his commitment to serving the lost and opened the doors of his home to one soul by the end of 2010. House of Restoration (HOR) became a reality, a faith-based program that provides housing and rehabilitation services to men in need. Over the next few years, the location of the church changed but one thing that stayed steadfast was the commitment to the covenant that was made with God so long ago. In 2015, Pastor Fabian became the pastor of San Antonio Christian Church and the congregations merged as one.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the original program came to an end in 2016. But God…with prayer and supplication provided a way for a new program to emerge, the Discipleship School of Ministry (DSM). The program was birthed late in 2019 and the students are currently housed on the property of SACC. It is at its full capacity, housing 21 men. We are believing in its continued growth and would appreciate your partnership in prayer for this.

Program
PHASE ONE
Our Phase One program prepares students to be disciples through a six-month course filled with Bible studies, service work in the community, and volunteer work for other non-profit organizations. The students also assist in the San Antonio Christian Church community soup kitchen as well as in their food pantry distributions.
During this phase, we will also help students with ID recovery, if needed, to prepare them for the workplace and so they can transition into our Phase Two work program.

The program has a productive daily routine that all must adhere to. Think of it as a Boot Camp for Life. Each day begins with prayer and Bible study. The remainder of the day keeps residents active and engaged. They participate in Hands On Training (HOT), which includes community service, evangelizing, and assisting other ministries. We train students to be disciples of Jesus Christ through biblical truths. This experience equips each one to live to the full potential God intended for their lives.
There are only three requirements:
-
· A referral from a pastor or ministry is preferred
-
· To have and maintain the desire to change their life
-
· To have and maintain the ability to surrender
PHASE TWO
Our Phase Two program helps students find employment. Participants then contribute 25% of their income toward room and board, as a way of giving back, keep 25% for their personal basic needs, and save 50% to eventually use towards transitioning back home with family or to begin independent living.
